Changes are a good thing!

I am making some rather drastic changes for this summers playing conditions. I decided to do something that i did not think we were going ready to do yet. The course is at a place, turf health wise that I am lowering the height of cut (HOC). The Tees, Collars, Fairways will all be mowed at .50 inches. The Greens are going from a height of .140 to .130. My goal by the end of summer is to get down to .120. Why the changes you ask? The answer is two reasons. 1st is to provide better playing conditions by having tighter shorter turf that is easier to hit off of, faster surfaces, and provides more roll. The 2nd is making the course look the best it can by visually giving the fairways, tees, collars more definition. The difference between the HOC of those areas and the rough really gives the course an element of shape.

We will be starting a renovation of Tee 13 by mid July. We will start it after we host several County tournaments and get a few pieces of equipment ready. I will be adding another 25 yards to the hole by moving the tee all the way back to the fence for a total yardage of 150 yards +or -. We will also start working on the other bridges and abutments through the rest of the year.

We experienced a loss on the maintenance crew in the month of June. Manuel Reyes was robbed and severely beaten on May 25th. He was in the hospital in a coma with major head injuries from being beaten. On June 8th Manuel passed away. He was 63 years old and only 6 months away from his retirement. Manuel was one of my best employees that always had a smile on his face. He will be missed greatly. If you would like to make a donation to help his family pay for the cost of the funeral services and medical care please contact me.
